Obituary for Merrill Johnson
Merrill Johnson, 89, of Peoria, Illinois passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Proctor Place in Peoria, Illinois. He was born in Greybull, Wyoming on February 28, 1926. His parents were Merrill B. Johnson and Salina Bell McKinney Johnson. Merrill had one sister Billie June Nelson and one brother J.P. Johnson, all now deceased. Merrill has two nephews and three nieces. He has eleven grandchildren-Donnelle, Ted, and Kevin children of Merilyn and Don Kearney. Jenny and Jeremy children of Don and Celia Johnson, Zachary, David, Adam and Sarah children of Sheri and Terry Beintema and Matthew, Jacob, and Luke children of M. David and Julie Johnson. Merrill has four great grandchildren. Merrill received his education in Greybull Elementary and High School. After 28 months in the U.S. Navy during World War II, He attended Montana State at Missoula, Montana and Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Merrill worked for the Burlington Railroad for 10 years, Texas Gulf Sulpher Co. for 30 years and together with his wife Fran managed a home construction business for 25 years. Merrill was an Illinois Licensed Real Estate Broker and Salesman. Merrill served 28 months in the U.S. Navy during World War II and spent 24 months serving aboard a Sub Chaser in the South Pacific. Merrill accepted Jesus Christ while in South Pacific, New Guinea. He was baptized in a river in New Guinea. He was ordained a ruling elder in the USA Presbyterian Church in Worland, Wyoming. He is a 32nd degree Mason. Merrill was married on November 9, 1947 in Greybull, Wyoming to Frances Olson. Together they had four children: Donald E. (Celia) Johnson of Brimfield, Illinois-Merilyn Frances (Don) Kearney of Lexington, Kentucky-Sheri Lea (Terry) Beintema of Brimfield, Illinois and Merrill David (Julie) Johnson of Plainfield, Illinois. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at the First Federated Church in Peoria, Illinois at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015.
