Obituary for Michael Corn
Michael Corn, 74, of Peoria, IL, completed this lifetime’s odyssey when he died at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home on Saturday, June 13, 2015. He is survived by is wife, Sharon; his brothers, Steve (Judy) and Don (Melanie); nieces, Stephanie and Suzanne; nephews, Ryan and Andy; 6 great nieces and nephews; and his dog, Spike. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clyde and Kay Corn. Mike said that he spent a few moments everyday thinking about them and how much they meant to his life. Many, many thank yous to the wonderfully compassionate and highly-skilled staffs at OSF 1700 Forest Park, Illinois CancerCare, OSF Infusion Center, OSF Home Health, and OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home for the kindness you showed and all the help you gave these past several months. Thank you to people everywhere who donated blood products. What a gift! To all those who have spoken so highly of Mike, thank you. As you share in the grief of his passing, here is a variation of a Dr. Seuss quote that Mike found last year: “Don’t be sad because it’s over; be happy because it happened.” Per Mike’s wishes, cremation has been accorded, and there will be no services. Think of him when you enjoy your next road trip or your next round of golf. Toast him with an ice-cold Miller Lite, a glass of red wine, or a ginger ale. Remember him when you eat a slice of pizza or a perfectly-cooked slice of prime rib or a slice of cherry pie. Nod to him over coffee shared with friends. Know that he is cheering alongside you when the Cardinals and the Illini Men’s Golf and Basketball teams play. Smile and laugh when you think of him being a very clever, straight-faced smart aleck. He was a lifelong Cardinal fan who thoroughly enjoyed the conversations sparked by merely wearing his Cardinal Caps. In heaven, Jack Buck is surely saying of Mike’s life, “That’s a winner!” Of course, Stan Musial is congratulating him, too. Memorial contributions in Mike’s honor may be made to The Illinois Central College Educational Foundation, 1 College Drive, East Peoria, IL 61635, designate “In Memory of Michael Corn”; or, designate “In Memory of Michael Corn for the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home” and mail to OSF Home Care Services, 2265 W. Altorfer Drive, Peoria, IL 61615; or by donating blood or some blood product through The American Red Cross. Thank you.
