Obituary for Nancy Burnett
Nancy Burnett, 70, of Astoria, Ill and Sarasota, FL died Monday, May 16th, 2011. Born May 16, 1941, in Chariton, Iowa. She was preceeded in death by her father Wilbur Lee Burnett, her mother Roberta Jueques Campbell Burnett-Clothier, brother Bill Burnett and step-father L. Scott Clothier. Nancy taught high school in Astoria where she instructed multiple generations of area families. She retired after 30 years of service and went on in retirement to start the GED program through Spoon River College. Nancy touched many lives through her teaching, her tireless volunteer work on the Astoria Fire and Rescue squad, and the Guardian Angel Bassett Rescue. Nancy also served as a school board member for the Astoria School District for many years. Nancy was a beloved mother, daughter, aunt, sister, friend and teacher. Survivors include her son Bret Camp of Sarasota, FL; brother Robert Burnett of Burlington, IA, nephew Jerry Burnett of Ft. Madison; niece Dianna Burnett of Marion, IA; nephew Scott Burnett of Burlington, IA; 2 grandsons, and 7 great nieces and nephews. In accordance with Nancy’s wishes, cremation will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Astoria Fire and Rescue or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held per her wishes and will be announced at a later date.
