Obituary for Naomi McGarvey
Naomi J. McGarvey, 92, of Peoria died Thursday January 22, 2015 at 3:10 pm at Heartland Nursing Home in Peoria. She was born October 26, 1922 in Oakland CA to Anthony and Bertha (Bell) Linhares. She married John R. McGarvey on October 26th 1945. He died on July 18, 1987 in Peoria. Surviving are 6 children, Bruce (Gwen) McLeod of Birmingham, AL, Pat McGarvey of Skokie, Helen McGarvey of Peoria, Anthony McGarvey of Las Cruces, NM, Cecelia McGarvey of Peoria and Tim (Mary Beth) McGarvey of Albuquerque, NM. 7 grandchildren, Scott McLeod, Miranda Wilson, Jeanne Reddy, Isaac McGarvey, Sarah McGarvey, Katie McGarvey and Hannah McGarvey. 3 great grandchildren, Blair Wilson, Naina and Kayla Reddy. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one daughter, Nancy McGarvey. Naomi was a long-time member of St. Marks Church and a member of OSF Ladies Auxiliary. She volunteered at OSF Hospital for many years. She loved to paint, play the piano, read and garden. The family would like to thank the staff of the Arcadia Unit of Heartland and OSF Hospice for the wonderful care they gave her. There will be a memorial mass held at St. Marks Church at 11 a.m. on Monday March 16th. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or any charity of the donor’s choice.
