Obituary for Patrick George Torrey
With deep sorrow, we announce that Patrick George Torrey, age 22, of Pekin, Illinois passed away on November 19th, 2022, in Davenport, Iowa. Patrick was born on October 21st, 2000, to Tadd and Patricia Torrey in Peoria, Illinois.
Patrick primarily spent his preschool and elementary school years at St. Joseph’s Catholic School and was especially fond of his St. Joseph family, friends, and teachers. At St. Joseph’s he received the Pekin Elk Student of the Year 2015 Award. He also spent a few years at Bel Air Elementary in Cumberland, Maryland, where he also enjoyed the many life-long friendships. Patrick attended Pekin Community High School and graduated in the class of 2019. In high school, Patrick received the Community Service Award and was inducted into the National Honor Society. He also received the PCHS and Andrew “Eddie” Ford Scholarships. Patrick enjoyed playing basketball year-round for the PCHS team and Illinois Irish summer leagues.
Patrick was currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology at St. Ambrose University with futures plans to become a child therapist. He was drawn to and inspired by working many summers with kids at the Pekin Park. During his time at St. Ambrose, Patrick was a phenomenal student athlete and friend to so many. He played basketball for the university and proudly wore the #40. He received several basketball and academic scholarships. Patrick truly loved his time at St. Ambrose and always looked forward to each school year so he could be with his people, learn and enjoy life!
Patrick was predeceased by his grandparents Patricia and Charles Marrone. He is survived by grandparents Fred and Marla Torrey, parents Tadd and Patricia Torrey, and was the brother of Christy and Olivia Torrey. Patrick is the nephew of Ray Marrone, Marty (Tracy) Marrone, James (Christina) Marrone, Terry (Ceyshé) Torrey, and Kevin Torrey. He is also survived by numerous fabulous cousins. Two years ago, while at St. Ambrose, Patrick also met the love of his life, Eliza Dzurisin. He was a brother-friend to many Ambrosian, Pekin and Cumberland classmates, PPD and Menards co-workers. He touched the lives of so many with his kindness, gentle heart, guidance, and awesome smile.
St. Ambrose will host a prayer service at 7:00 PM on Monday, November 28th, 2022, at Christ the King Chapel.
A Rosary prayer service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, December 2nd, 2022, followed by the visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pekin, Illinois. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 3rd, 2022, at 11:00 AM, also at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Father Michael Andrejek and Father Dan Peters will officiate. All are welcome to a luncheon following mass at 2 PM at the Pekin Moose Lodge.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic School Angel Fund, PCHS Andrew “Eddie” Ford Scholarship or St. Ambrose University Men’s Basketball Program in his name.
