Obituary for Phyrne Howard
Phyrne E. Howard, 87, of Pekin passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Hallmark House Nursing Home in Pekin. She was born March 21, 1931 in Glasford to Henry and Velda Waughop Zeine. She married Melvin Howard February 9, 1952; he preceded her in death December 6, 1987. Her parents; sisters, Hazel Tomevi, Melba Tucker and brothers, Donald Zeine, Harvey Zeine and Russell Zeine also preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Michael (Diane) Howard, Patrick (Kathleen) Howard, Conda (George) Cox, Audrey (Clinton) Wezel, Johnathon Howard; fifteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Merle Zeine, Raymond Zeine; sister, Shirley Sorrentino and many nieces and nephews. Phyrne graduated from Timber Township High School and Graham School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse for Pekin Hospital for 25 years and later worked for Bigfork Valley Hospital in Minnesota before retiring in 1987. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Red Hat Society. She was an election judge in Minnesota for many years. She was an avid reader and loved gardening, tatting, knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking; especially cinnamon rolls. Cremation has been accorded and a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Butler Haynes Park Pavilion in Mapleton from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Please bring your memories and funny stories. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the donor’s choice in her name.
