Obituary for Richard Carl Schwarz
Richard (Dick) Carl Schwarz, 78, of Peoria passed away Thursday October 15th at home with his family by his side. Dick was born on Sept. 4, 1937 in Ashtabula, Ohio to Harold and Laura (Bratton) Schwarz.  He married Myrna Wilson on November 14, 1964 at Highland Presbyterian Church in Street, Maryland.  She survives after fifty years of marriage.  Also surviving are their two sons, Richard (Rick), Jr. (Jody) of Swansea, Illinois and Cyril (Cy) (Karolee) of Chicago, and three grandchildren, Justin, Kaitlyn and Matthew Schwarz of Swansea, Illinois; also one brother, Robert (Mary) and seven nephews and niece all natives of Ashtabula, Ohio.  He was preceded in death by his parents. Dick was born and lived on a farm located on the shore of Lake Erie in northeastern Ohio for the first eighteen years of his life.  With few close neighbors, his best friend for several years was his Shetland pony, Sugar.  He excelled in high school sports: football, basketball and track, and held the county records in high jump and high hurdles for many years.  Dick was valedictorian of his class in Edgewood High School and is a member of his high school Hall of Fame.  He graduated from Kent State University majoring in Geology where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, worked two jobs and ran track.  Dick loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, walking in the woods, picking morel mushrooms and practiced amateur taxidermy. Dick was employed by American Water Works Company, Inc. working for seven subsidiary companies in four states over his thirty-eight year career, ending in Peoria where he retired as Manager of the Northern Division of Illinois American Water Company in 1999.

Dick was a Rotarian for 38 years, ten years in Belleville, Illinois where he was President, and twenty-eight years in Peoria Downtown Rotary.  He was Chairman of the Board, Belleville Area Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Board Belleville-Fairview Heights Junior Achievement.  Dick is a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow.  He also received the Louis B. Neumiller Founders Award for Junior Achievement of Central Illinois in Peoria. Dick was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Peoria, Ilinois, where he served as a Deacon. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday October 20
