Richard Watson “Dick” Schwab, 93, of East Peoria, Illinois, passed away on Friday, November 13

th

, 2015, at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria.

Dick was born December 20, 1921, in Marion Heights, Sugar Creek Township, Vigo County, Indiana just north of Terre Haute to Pearl (Watson) and Herman Schwab.

He married Marion Quedensley in Peoria on August 14, 1943.

She preceded him in death in February, 2005. Dick was also preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Bill, Art, Carl, Vern, and Norman and five sisters, Dorothy, Helen, Sophia, Mary Ellen, and Virginia Lee. Survivors include one son, Rick (Joan) Schwab and one daughter, Susan (Jack) Duke of East Peoria, five grandchildren, Andy (Tina) Duke of Bartonville, Scott (Melanie) Schwab of Texas, Lesley (Matt) Ogburn of Colorado, Jennifer (Shawn) MacRitchie of Morton, and Sara Duke of East Peoria, three great-grandchildren, Xavier, Alec and Ewan, and several nieces and nephews. He worked at Hiram Walkers Distillery in Peoria from 1940 until the plant closed in 1983.

He served as a corporal in the US Army from 1942-1946 as a military policeman and company clerk.

He also worked at his brother Vern’s lumber company, meeting many people.

Dick was well-known as an all around handy man, always willing to help anyone. Dick was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in East Peoria and was a lifetime Honorary Member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was also a member of the Hiram Walkers Rod and Gun Club. Dick treasured time spent with his family and friends.

When not watching baseball and football as a lifetime fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Notre Dame and the Green Bay Packers, Dick enjoyed traveling with his wife all over the country by car and on bus trips. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and friend and by the family genealogy he researched and published in 2003-2004. Arrangements will be handled by the Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co.

A memorial mass will be held Friday, November 20, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St. Monica’s Church in East Peoria, with visitation one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria for the comfort and care shown to our father.
