Obituary for Robert Avery
Robert F. Avery, 90, of Peoria died at 2:02 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2015 in the emergency room at UnityPoint Health Proctor in Peoria. Robert was born August 27, 1925 in Chicago to Frederick John and Grace Reeda. He married Brenda Epley February 20, 1991, she survives. He was predeceased by his previous wives, the mothers of his children, Helen Dodds and Suzanne Mellenbeck, and granddaughter, Meredith Avery, age 20. He is survived by his children, Melissa Avery/Schnoes (Randy) of Minneapolis, Donald Avery (Fara) of Dublin, Georgia, Ann Avery/Henn (Mark) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Valerie Ellen Lewis (Mark) of Trivoli and stepson, Daren Epley (Patricia) of Peoria. He is also survived by six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and brothers, George Avery and John Avery. Bob joined the Navy at age 17 and fought in the Mediterranean area, during WW11 and LST 561 1942-1946. He worked as an I.R. with the Boy Scouts of America 8 years when Don was a boy. His Masonic affiliations are, Illinois Blue Lodge, Most Wise Master 1982, Mohammed Shrine Temple, 17 years on the Patrol, 12 years Potentates Aide and Potentate in 1993. He founded the Mohammed Flying Nobles in 1977. He was a 40 year member of the Royal Order of Jesters. After retirement from Sprinkmann Insulation he volunteered as an escort at Proctor Hospital. He was a member of Mt. Hawley Country Club and was an elder at the Arcadia Presbyterian Church (now United Presbyterian). The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to UnityPoint Health Methodist Hospice, especially to Laura. Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 30, 2015 at United Presbyterian at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior at the church.

Memorials may be made to Mohammed Shrine or Boys and Girls Club in his name.
