Obituary for Robert E Byrd
Robert E. Byrd, 78, of Pekin passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at his residence. He was born March 23, 1939 in Milwaukee, WI to Jesse and Margaret Azarowicz Byrd. He married Geraldine Latawiec on May 13, 1959 in Milwaukee, WI; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Dawn (Jed) Allen, Annette (Brad) Davis, Wendy (Steven) Christmann, Linda Hills, Patti Voegele, Bridgette (Brian) Fisher; eighteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Douglas (Nancy) Byrd, William Byrd, Mary Ellen (Dean) La Douceur and several nieces and nephews. His parents; sister, Margie Ann Chmela and nephew, Jeff Byrd preceded him in death. Robert attended St. Roberts Catholic Grade School and Riverside High School in Milwaukee, WI. He served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne and worked as an Engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad; retiring in 2003. He made rubber stamps as a part time business. He loved his computer, swimming, gardening, managing bingo for the Knights of Columbus where he was known as “Bingo Bob” and he was an avid Packers fan. He was a member of the Circle 8 Club, Round Dance Club and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Archbishop Schlarman Council #3507 in Pekin. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin where a funeral mass will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 11 a.m. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 4 p.m. at Abts Mortuary in Pekin. Cremation will be accorded following the services. Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus in Pekin in his name.
