Obituary for Robert Montgomery
Robert V. Montgomery, 85, of Pekin, Illinois passed away June 7, 2015 at his home. Robert was born June 18, 1929 in Pekin to Walter and Uvenious (Jean) Montgomery. He married Jacquline Lee Heilman on October 7, 1951 at Bethel Memorial Church in Creve Coeur, IL. She survives. Also surviving are four daughters: Kristie (Randall) Reliford of South Pekin, IL, Julie (William) Howat of Denver, CO, Marcia (Zane) Wilson of Kempton, IN, and Maralee (Brad) Doren of Ft. Myers, FL; one special son, Ryan (Tabitha) Render of New Haven, IN; six grandsons, Aaron Reliford, James Howat, Gage Doren, Jacob Wilson, Zachary Wilson, and Matthew Wilson; and one granddaughter, Kobe Doren. Bob served in the U.S. Navy for five years during the Korean War. He was employed by the Pekin Fire Department for 26 years, retiring as Assistant Chief in 1983. Bob was well known in the Pekin area with home building and repair. He was also a life-long member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Visitation will be at Abts Mortuary on Thursday, June 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Services will be held at Abts Mortuary on Friday, June 12 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Russ Lance will officiate. Burial will be at Woodrow Cemetery, rural Pekin following the service. Memorial Contributions may be made to TAPS, 100 TAPS Lane, Pekin, IL 61554.
