Obituary for Roger Johnson
Roger A. Johnson, 76, was promoted into the Mystery on October 18, 2013 at his Mapleton Home, surrounded by his family. Roger, born March 25, 1937 to Albert and Viola (Miller) Johnson, grew up on a Hanna City farm and attended Farmington High School. He wed his bride of 55 years, Pat Pierson, on October 11, 1958. He leaves behind his wife and two daughters, Chris Johnson (Brian Fippinger) of Oak Park, Shawna Oertley of Cary, and brothers, Arlen (Vera) and Gary (Barb) of Hanna City, Jay (Jackie) of Royal, four grandchildren, Jen (Dan) Wooldridge, Christin (Andy) Kim, Michelle (Chris) Silbaugh, and Matt Fippinger, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He joins his parents and his son-in-law, Larry Oertley, Jr. Roger was a sweet, loving man who lived a full life filled with his family and friends, and was loved by all who knew him. In earlier years, he worked at Keystone before forming his own construction company. He was later the Limestone Township Supervisor for 16 years and was instrumental in the building of the Township’s swimming pool. A lifelong racing enthusiast, Roger attended 49 Indy 500 races (among others) and was a participating racer in the Winnipeg-St. Paul 500 mile snowmobile race. Roger turned challenges into positives, loved and helped others unconditionally, and made life fun. He was indeed a rich man when measured by his family and lifetime of friends. He will be missed enormously, but will always continue to inspire. As he said himself, he had a great run. A Celebration of Roger’s Life will take place on Saturday, October 26 at Club Phoenix, 4206 Pfeiffer Road, Bartonville, IL, with a Memorial from 4-5 p.m., and continued storytelling and receiving of family and friends until 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Roger’s name to St. Jude’s or Alpha Park Library.
