Obituary for Sarah Compton
Sarah Rice Compton 69, of Groveland passed away on Saturday September 17, 2011 at Riverview Care Center in East Peoria. She was born in Syracuse, NY on April 20, 1942 to W.H. and Esther L. Johnson Rice. She married Bill Compton in Syracuse, NY at Park Central Presbyterian Church on October 1, 1965. He survives along with her son, William R. (Aimee) Compton and his children Jacob and Madelline of Lexington, KY, daughter, Amy L. (Tom) Trent and her children Joshua and Lauren of Coralville, IA, brother, Richard (Ruth) Rice of Palm Desert, CA and sister-in-law Marilyn Rice of Brick Township, NJ. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, W.H. Rice II and Peter C. Rice. Sarah graduated from Syracuse University with her BS Degree in Audiology and Speech Pathology in1969 and Bradley University with her MS Degree in Special Education in1983. She was a member of the Pi Lamda Theta Alpha Omega Chapter at Bradley University, 1983 (the National Honor and Professional Association in Education). She was a Special Education Teacher in Princeville, IL for the Special Education Association of Peoria County, IL, retiring in June 2003 after 20 years of teaching. Previously she worked at Syracuse University Research Corporation, Syracuse, NY from 1962 to 1967 and Speech Pathology and Audiology Associates, Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, IL from 1978 to 1983. Sarah enjoyed knitting, traveling with her husband, family and friends, watching college basketball and college and professional football, spoiling the grandchildren, sharing spring, summer and fall evenings with neighbors and friends on her gazebo and gourmet cooking. She was a member of Morton United Methodist Church where a memorial service will be held on Saturday October 15
