Obituary for Susan Eyer
Susan Belle Eyer, 59, of Peoria passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 at her home under Vitas Hospice care. Susan was born March 10, 1954 in Chicago, IL and was adopted as an infant by Dillard and Ruth Glotfelty. They subsequently moved to Flossmor and later to Pontiac, IL. Susan then lived in Peoria for the remainder of her life. She graduated from Pontiac Twp. High School in 1971 and from Illinois Central College in 1985. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by two brothers: Phillip Glotfelty (Jody) of Shorewood, IL, and Thomas Glotfelty (Carol) of Powder Springs, GA; two nieces: Sherry Scates (Plainfield, IL) and Rachel Singleton (Sugar Hill, GA), and one nephew: Jeffrey Glotfelty (Philadelphia, PA). Three great-nieces and one great-nephew also survive. Susan had a challenging life with many medical issues. In fact, she lived years beyond medical expectations. Her gratitude to an anonymous organ donor meant that she'd encourage all to sign a donor card! Her strong faith in God and her love for her family kept her going. She knew her days were numbered and made her final arrangements known. She requested that cremation be done (with private inurnment) and that an "uplifting and not depressing" celebration of her life be held. The family would like to thank her pastor, John Klotz, Richard Hiatt, hospice personnel, and (especially) her caregivers and friends Kathy, Barb and Chris for all they've done for Susan over the past years. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 24th at 11:00 A.M, at Mt. Hawley Community Church, 6900 Mt. Hawley Rd. in Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Hawley Community Church or to Methodist Medical Center's Pastoral Care Dept., for whom she volunteered.
