Obituary for Thomas J. Martin
Thomas Joseph Martin 81, of Pekin passed away on Monday December 28, at Heartland Health Care Center in Peoria. Born May 16, 1928 in Evanston, IL. He was the son George and Marie Weissenburg Martin. He married Janet Judge on September 1, 1956 in Glenview. She preceded him in death in 1984. He then married Christine A. Allen in 1990, she survives. Also surviving are his five children: Peggy (Randy) Tieman of Wilmette, Thomas Martin Jr. of Chicago, Tim (Karen) Martin of Wilmette, Jennifer (Jan) Martin-Theeuwes of Leiden, Holland and Julie (Doug) Streff of Chicago. He also has two stepdaughters Linda (Terry) Carey of South Bend, IN, Judy (Mark) Webb of Deer Creek, eight grandchildren: Katie and Elise Tieman, Calvin Martin, Jeannette, Marieke and Gillian Theeuwes, Molly and Meredith Streff, five step-grandchildren: Lindsay, Allison, Derek, Drew and Jayden, two step great grandchildren Leiya and Trenton, two brothers Bob (Polly) Martin of Ojai, CA and George (Ann) Martin of Lake Bluff. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marie Sloot. Tom was a true athlete though out his life, playing football, baseball and golf at Highland Park High School and football at the University of Illinois and University of Colorado-Boulder, where he graduated. He truly loved the game of golf and was a member of the Pekin Country Club, where he won the Men’s Sr. Championship in 1991. Tom settled in Pekin with his family in 1971. He was in sales and then self employed most of his life. He will be remembered by all who knew him by his fun loving ways and his sense of humor. He will be very much missed by his loving family. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday January 2

at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church where he is a member. Father Timothy Nolan will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church one and a half hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests memorials be made to fight Alzheimer’s Disease.
