Obituary for Vera Behrends
Vera Behrends 91, of Pekin passed away on Monday April 20, 2009 at Pekin Hospital. Born in South Pekin on February 3, 1918 to William and Mary Pohlman McDonald. She married Melvin J. Behrends in Pekin on October 10, 1936, he preceded her in death on September 28, 1989. Also proceeding were her infant son, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Vera is survived by her children; Melvin J. (June K) Behrends Jr. and Marilyn Fardel Thome both of Pekin, Joan Goodall Stickle of Decatur, grandchildren; Chris and Roger Fardel, Tom Goodall, Lori Richardson, Pat Sandage, Scott Goodall, Stacey Brienen, Mary Pierce and Shawn Behrends. 15 great grand and 3 great great grandchildren also survive. She worked on the Bottling Line at American Distillery and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin where she was on the Council of Catholic Women. A funeral service will be held at Abts Mortuary on Friday April 24, at 11:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Father Pat Fixsen will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. Memorials may be made in Vera’s name to St. Joseph Catholic School. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Abts Mortuary.
