Obituary for Violet Ely
Violet E. Ely, 87, of Peoria Heights passed away peacefully on July 1, 2012 at the home of her daughter. She was born October 25, 1924 to Jacob and Nora Uphoff in Lowpoint-Washburn. She married Eugene “Gene” Ely on October 1, 1949. He passed away March 26, 2011, and will always be dearly missed. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters. She was the last surviving member of her original family. Surviving are one daughter, Suzi Ely and one grandson, Ben Ely, both of Peoria Heights. She enjoyed cooking, baking and canning garden vegetables. She loved playing checkers and bingo and was almost always the winner. Going fishing with her family was one of her favorite things in life, and she always had a smile for her only grandson. She will be lovingly remembered in our hearts and prayers forever. No services will be held; but family requests those who knew Violet (& Gene) to light a candle at their church, or in their home in honor of her. A mass will be said on her birthday and at Christmas for Violet and Gene. Cremation has been accorded and burial will be at a later date. Donations or memorials may be made to the Methodist Hospice Program c/o Methodist Hospital.
