Obituary for Virginia E. Hopwood
Virginia E. “Betty” Debis-Hopwood of Peoria passed away on Wednesday July 1, 2009 at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria. Betty was born on January 21, 1922 in Peoria to Peter A. and Emma A. Stegmaier Post. She married Earl G. Debis on March 29, 1941. He passed away on November 1, 1961. She later married Merle Hopwood on October 28, 1964 and he passed away on December 3, 1992. Surviving are one son, Gary E. and Judy Debis of Bartonville and one grandson, Craig E. Debis of Pekin. Also surviving is one sister, Evelyn G. Hansen of Fountain Hills, AZ and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor and Norman Post. Betty was owner of Betty Hopwood Custom Draperies for over 30 years. She enjoyed volunteering at the Church Mouse and made many beautiful quilts and sewing projects. Betty was of the Lutheran faith. Per her wishes there will be no services. Cremation rites have been accorded and private burial of ashes will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to Peoria Rescue Ministries, 601 SW Adams St. Peoria, IL 61602. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.
