Obituary for Willard Colvin Jr.
Willard C. Colvin, Jr. (Skip), 71, of Farmington passed away suffering a heart attack on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Unity Point Health Methodist. Skip was born on February 3, 1942 to Willard Sr. and Edna (Bollinger) Colvin. He married Shirley (Steele) on February 1, 1969. She preceded him in death along with his father and one foster brother, Gary Ray Douglas. Surviving are his mother, Edna of Farmington; one sister, Tammie Colvin of Lewistown; one son, Erik and Sheri (Swearingen) Colvin along with five grandchildren, Bryar, Lydea, Elyce, Tenley and Adelyn Colvin all of Farmington. Skip graduated from Farmington High School in 1960 and went on to attend The First Baptist College of Kansas for a year before joining the Air Force. Skip was an Airman 1st Class and a Veteran of the Korean War. After the Air Force he went on to work for Western Electric for many years taking a lay-off to stay close to his family. In 1982 he became the custodian at Farmington Central Schools where he retired. Skip was a lifelong resident of Farmington and was very active in the community from the Boy Scouts, Council of Churches, 40+ year member of the First Baptist Church where he served on many boards to the American Legion Post 140. He was an avid book reader, always has stories to tell and had never met a stranger. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL at 3 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Farmington Boy Scouts or the Farmington Rescue 1100.
