Obituary for William Rath
William H. Rath, 97, of Peoria passed away Sunday September 9, 2012 at Buehler Home in Peoria. He was born March 2, 1915 in Peoria to William and Hazel Hawley Rath. He married Pauline F. Downing July 2, 1941 in Peoria. She survives along with his children, William W. (Virginia) Rath of Carol Stream, IL, Stephen P. (Barb) Rath of Peoria and Laurie K. (William) Hahn of Peoria. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. William served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was the Vice President of the Commercial National Bank Building in Peoria, where he worked for 49 years. Many of those years he created the Christmas displays. He was an avid golfer, photographer and woodworker. William was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, Kiwanis and BOMA. He spoke fondly of the education he received from the sisters of St. Patrick’s Grade School in Peoria. His family extends their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Buehler Home for their wonderful care. Cremation has been accorded and private family services will be held.
