Obituary for James Cadagin
James H. Cadagin, 88, of Pekin passed away early Friday morning on January 17, 2014 at Pekin Hospital. Jim was born on March 23, 1925 in Springfield, Illinois to Frank and Gertrude (O’Leary) Cadagin. He married Jacquelyn Beger on December 27, 1947. She preceded him in death. He is survived by three daughters; Molly Cadagin, Kathleen Johnson, and Barbara Cadagin. Also surviving are five granddaughters; Heidi Chalmers, Emily (Alex) Gray, Amy (JP) Dillingham, Colleen Johnson, Holly Johnson and five great granddaughters; Reily, Lauren, Teagan, Paige, and Logan. He is also survived by one brother, Donald (Cathy) Cadagin, three sisters, Mary (Marvin) Farmer, Rita (Ed) Norris, Patricia (Larry) Snodgrass, and many nieces and nephews. Jim served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He graduated from Bradley Univerisity and taught at Pekin Community High School for 33 years. During his teaching career, he was an integral part of starting the Vocational Center. Jim was an avid reader and had a great passion for writing. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was involved in the church and many civic organizations. He donated over 18 gallons of blood to the Red Cross. Jim had a great love for his family and his Irish heritage. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, Pastor Michael Andrejek will officiate and burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin with Military Honors. Visitation will be held at Abts Mortuary in Pekin on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph School Endowment Fund.
