Obituary for Richard Dick Adamson
Richard “Dick” S. Adamson, age 86, of Peoria passed away at Proctor Hospital on December 20, 2013.
He was born January 24, 1927 to Arthur and Nye (Gray) Adamson in Peoria, Illinois.
He married Patricia Murphy on April 22, 1949. Dick graduated from Manual High School in 1944 and began attending Bradley University.
He enlisted in the Navy for active duty for 15 months from 1945 to 1946, serving on the SS Bald Eagle and the SS Katerina L. Upon discharge, Dick returned to Bradley and graduated in 1949. Dick worked for Caterpillar until his retirement in 1986.
He and Pat moved from Peoria to Marinette, Wisconsin in 1973 for Caterpillar’s Defense Products group for a three year stay, developing Caterpillar's Go-er.
While living in Wisconsin, he and Pat learned to ski and took many ski trips for several years. They returned to Peoria in 1976. Upon retirement, Dick and Pat spent 6 months of the year at their summer place in Indiana, and spent winters in Florida or Alabama, while retaining a home in Peoria.
They loved to travel and ski, and Dick loved playing golf. In 2008, Dick and Pat sold their home and moved to Buehler Home. Pat died May 29, 2012.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two sons: Richard “Mike” Adamson and William “Bill” Adamson.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers: A. Gray Adamson and William Adamson. Dick is survived by two daughters: Sue (Glenn) Fritz of Trivoli, and Sandy (Ed) Welsh of Peoria, and one sister, Dorothy Sours.
He is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Dick’s life will be held at the Itoo Hall at 4909 W. Farmington Road in Peoria on January 4, 2014 from 1-3 pm. On behalf of Dick’s great-granddaughter Lucy, the family requests memorials be made to the Spina Bifida Association of Illinois, 8765 W. Higgins Rd. #403, Chicago, IL 60631.
