Obituary for Harold Thompson
Harold Leroy Thompson, 75, of Peoria died at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, Dec. 15, at his home. Harold was born September 25, 1937 in Peoria to Harold and Madlyn Thompson. He was married to Peggy D. (Duncan) Thompson on March 2, 1962. She survives along with his children, Jill (Rod) Skewes and Greg Thompson, both of Dunlap; four granddaughters, Samantha and Allison Thompson, Rachel and Kate Skewes; two sisters, Colette (Richard) Sluser of Peoria and Ellen Chapman of Charleston, South Carolina. Harold was preceded in death by both his parents. Harold served in the U.S. Air Force for six years. After serving his country, he worked for Peoria Spring & Accessories, Caterpillar, and spent the last 18 years of his career with the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department. He retired in 2008. He was a member of the Joseph Robbins Masonic Lodge 930 in Bartonville for 35 years. Cremation has been accorded by his wishes. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Peoria on Friday, December 21st at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 20th from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. and for an hour prior to the memorial service at the church. Ashes will be spread at Choates Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery in Pulaski, Tennessee at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Peoria. The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas and staff at Illinois Cancer Care and Methodist Hospice Services.
