Obituary for Janice Churchill
Janice Lynn Churchill, 72, of Canton passed away on Sunday December 4, 2011 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. She was born in Canton on February 11, 1939 to Ivan and Helene Quade Nagel. Jan is survived by her daughters, Stephanie (Cheryl Lefler) Churchill of Canton, Jennifer (Jesse Hebisen) Churchill of Webster Groves, MO; brother, Steven (Linda Godwin) Nagel of Columbia, MO; grandchildren, Pete and Sam Hebisen and Tiera Claudin and two nieces, Whitney and Lauren Nagel. She was also survived by her beloved Blue Heeler named Callie. She was preceded in death by her parents. Jan worked as an Elementary Special Education Teacher for Farmington School District retiring in May 2010. Jan possessed a compassionate heart, a gentle spirit and a very strong faith. She was an avid reader and loved working crossword puzzles. Jan was a very talented artist and craftsperson who participated for several years in the Spoon River Drive. She was also an accomplished writer and poet having had several of her works published. Jan was a fantastic storyteller and had a wonderful sense of humor! She loved teaching and made a difference in the lives of countless children. Jan was adventurous and loved vacationing in the Colorado Rockies. She was a devoted daughter, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, niece and friend who especially enjoyed spending time with her family which also included many dogs over the years. Jan was filled with extraordinary strength and courage and was an inspiration and blessing to all who knew her! Cremation has been accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held Saturday December 10, 2011 at First Congregational United Church of Christ 159 N. 2
