Obituary for Robert F. Meredith
Robert F. Meredith, 88 died at his home in Chillicothe at 10:50 a.m. Friday August 1, 2008. Born January 22, 1920 in Springfield, IL to Lee Meredith and Elizabeth Knust Meredith. Surviving is one son and daughter in law Bob and Chriss Meredith of Boise ID, and a daughter and son in law Judy and Tom Tumblin of Longmont, CO, 2 grandsons, Russ Meredith of Mtn. Home, ID and Dylan Tumblin of Longmont, CO, 2 great grand children, Jack and Mason Merdith of Idaho. His very beloved and favorite sister, Bette Gleich and her entire beloved family. He is also survived by a very special step grandson and family, Brent, Melissa and Hailey Tumblin of Broomfield, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, and dear brothers Ron L. and Jack K. Meredith. He was a WWII veteran, surviving at Pearl Harbor on the USS Vestal. He graduated from Kewanee HS in 1937, and joined the Navy in January 1939, serving on the USS Vestal, USS Sioux, NTS-TI and the USS Hazard and was honorably discharged on October 10, 1945 as Chief Carpenter’s Mate. He owned several businesses as a carpenter and cabinetmaker. He retired to Chillicothe in 1987 where he spent many hours volunteering driving for the township and helping with construction projects at Pearce Community Center. His love for flying was profound and shared with many of his dear friends. There will be no services and burial of cremains will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Berlin, IL. Donations can be made by volunteering your time and energy in helping others in this wonderful community. He will be missed by all. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. is assisting the family with arrangements.
